Ted Platz’s path to Rhode Island, and to his career real estate, was anything but conventional. After earning a degree in Economic Theory, he set out to discover what kind of work truly suited him. His early jobs included framing houses in Richmond, Virginia, and working in a strip mine in West Virginia. Eventually, he made his way to Rhode Island in search of opportunities in the commercial fishing industry.

Ted’s first fishing job was in Little Compton. Not long after, he purchased his own boat and moved to Newport, which at the time was a quieter seaside town. While fishing, he began investing in commercial properties on Aquidneck Island—a move that sparked his lasting interest in real estate.

After 30 years running boats, Ted made the decision to shift his focus entirely to commercial real estate. For the past 25 years, he has owned and managed a range of commercial properties and small businesses. That hands-on experience has given him deep insight into this type of property—and into the entrepreneurial people drawn to it.

What Ted enjoys most is helping others find the right space to launch or grow their business. Playing even a small role in that process is what makes his work meaningful.

Today, Ted specializes in commercial real estate and is fluent in both English and Spanish.
